Commerce City Prairie Gateway project
PRAIRIE GATEWAY
Prairie Gateway is a 917-acre parcel of land located along the western edge of the Rocky Mountain National Wildlife Refuge. This Refuge forms the largest single open space area in the Denver metropolitan area. The Prairie Gateway project, located between 56th Avenue and Highway 2 on Quebec Street, was purchased by Commerce City on July 22, 2004 for 4.7 million dollars. The purchase proceeds were deposited in a restricted fund and are required to be used for the construction of a new visitor center for the Wildlife Refuge.
